We get it. Because we’ve been there.
Why We Started Restful Remote
Hi, I’m Tim, the founder of Restful Remote.
In March 2020, like millions of others, I suddenly found myself working from home full-time. At first, it was amazing. No commute! Sleep in an extra hour! Work in pajamas!
But within three months, I was a zombie.
I’d stay up until 1 AM finishing “one more task.” I’d wake up at 3 AM with work anxiety. My bedroom became my office, and my bed became my desk. I was working more hours than ever, but accomplishing less because I was perpetually exhausted.
One night, after lying awake for two hours unable to shut my brain off, I realized: Remote work wasn’t the problem. My approach to remote work was the problem.
I spent the next year obsessively researching sleep science, testing dozens of products, interviewing sleep experts, and completely restructuring my remote work setup. The result? I now sleep better than I did in my office days—and I’m more productive during work hours.
But here’s what shocked me: Nearly every remote worker I talked to was struggling with the same issues. And most had no idea how to fix them.
That’s why I created Restful Remote.
What Makes Us Different
We’re not just another sleep blog. We’re remote workers who understand the unique challenges of working from home:

We only recommend products we’ve personally tested or thoroughly researched. If we haven’t used it or can’t verify its claims, we won’t recommend it. Period.

- Testing: We personally test products for minimum 14-30 days (longer for mattresses and major purchases)
- Comparison: We compare against competitors in the same price range and category
- Real-world use: We test products in actual remote work scenarios—not ideal laboratory conditions
- Updates: We revisit reviews annually to ensure recommendations remain current
What we consider:
- Effectiveness (does it actually work?)
- Value (is it worth the price?)
- Remote worker specific needs (does it solve WFH challenges?)
- Quality and durability

We use a rating system across multiple categories rather than a single “star rating” because sleep products affect everyone differently.
